About Us (FAQ's)
What can I expect on a Sunday morning?
We seek to worship God "in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) On a typical Sunday, you can expect that we will spend time worshipping God through praise and singing, through corporate prayer, through the preaching of the Word of God, through giving of tithes and offerings, and through personal and corporate response to God's revelation of Himself during worship. We encourage a biblically defined and God-honoring freedom in worship which is reflected in the manner in which this body expresses praise to God.
What is the preaching like?
Our preaching is Christ-exalting, cross-centered, grace-driven, and God-magnifying. Man's greatest need is not to discover his purpose, but to know the God who created man for His glory. For that reason, we preach the Bible in an expositional manner (that means we study the Word of God in context) rather than topically. We are convinced that the Bible is the inerrant and authoritative Word of God. Our preaching is rooted in the conviction that we were made to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. Our pastor preaches from a Reformed Southern Baptist perspective.
What is the music like?
Our worship style is contemporary, but it is not compromised! In other words, the music that we sing is generally contemporary (God has blessed us with a great band), however it is strong in biblical content. We believe that worship is for one audience alone and it's not the congregation! Our worship is for an audience of one - God Himself. Regardless of who might be in attendance, God is the only honored guest, and corporate worship is planned with that truth in mind.
What is the vision/direction of the church?
The overarching desire of the church is best expressed by the words,
"Soli Deo Gloria" (To God alone, the glory) and is expressed by our commitment
to three priorities: worship, nurture, and mission. Our first and greatest
priority is to worship God with the entirety of our lives. Out of that
ultimate calling flow the additional priorities of nurture (spiritually
growing and ministering to the body of believers at WSBC) and mission
(engaging the culture with the intention of introducing them to Jesus Christ
through the personal and corporate demonstration and proclamation of the
gospel, in deed and truth).
God is doing a fresh work in our church. With the advent of new pastoral
leadership (January 2006), God has been refining the focus of WSBC from the
seeker-sensitive, purpose-driven model to a church that is boldly
God-centered and Christ-exalting. As a result, many of the
ministries are undergoing continual transformation. We seek to be a church
that has: One purpose - to glorify God and enjoy Him forever;
One vision - God's Kingdom come; One direction - wherever God leads; Three
priorities - Worship, Nurture, Mission.
What ministries do you offer?
We offer a variety of different ministries to grow and mature the body of Christ at WSBC. We seek not to be program driven, but only to begin and nurture ministries as we are led by the Spirit of God. We currently have a strong youth ministry - FAME; a growing, comprehensive children's ministry; a powerful music and worship ministry; a vibrant missions ministry; a developing deacon care ministry; a growing men's and women's ministry; and more - all bathed in prayer and seeking to bring honor and glory to God's name.
