Our greatest desire is to see the next generation come to saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by the teaching of His Word. To this end, all that we do is centered around Christ. We are here to serve your family and to come along side you in training your children in the Lord.

Youth Ministry

The Student Ministry team here at West Salem Baptist exists to help and assist the parents in the discipleship of their youth aged children. We have a leadership team consisting of pastors, adult leaders and student leaders. Also aiding in the discipleship process is the implementation of a Sunday School curriculum that revolves around the gospel of Christ and His glory. This curriculum is designed to lead to the student’s growth in Christ, teach the students to take ownership of their faith, and to be involved in serving the Lord by serving His body.

Adult Discipleship

Sunday School

Groups meet on Sunday mornings from 9:15 am – 10:15 am, before the main worship service at 10:30 am. This is a time for learning and growing together in Christ and His word. We discuss how the Word of God impacts our lives as believers and how we apply it to daily lives. This is a place for newcomers to the church to get connected and plugged in to the life of the church and get to know one another better. There are a variety of classes to accommodate those of all ages seeking to be involved.

Small groups

Our small groups meet in the homes of members and provide a context for group discussion about the Sunday morning sermons.  The goal is to learn together and to help each other apply the word to our lives.  This is also an avenue for deep friendships to be formed and for the investing and weaving of lives together as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Bible Study

Bible studies are offered as an additional time to delve into the study of God’s word together. These studies are not just for intellectual knowledge but also as an avenue to know Christ more intimately and personally and to understand God’s will for us individually and as a church.

Weekly Studies

  • Morning Ladies Bible Study Tuesday 9AM – 10AM Rm 221
  • Women’s Bible Study Thursday 10:30 AM – 12 AM (Currently on summer break)
  • Men’s Bible Study Friday 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM– first and third Friday of every month (Currently on summer break)

Music Ministry

Gretchen Shaffer, our pastor’s wife, leads worship.  She leads the singing alongside a praise team and a full praise band.  Each week, the music is selected with the sermon topic in mind to prepare us to receive the Word of God through the preaching, and to draw our hearts out to worship Christ in spirit and in truth. We sing a variety of well-known hymns of the faith as well as new songs that are strong in Biblical content.

Our praise team regularly teach the congregation new praise and worship songs and on occasion they will sing powerful anthems.  Each Christmas we have a special “Night of Worship” that involves everyone in the music ministry and includes our children’s choir and worship dancers. We are always looking for people who love Jesus to join our worship team.

Care Ministry

The Care Ministry’s main mission is to meet the short-term practical needs of our church body. This ministry stocks a food pantry for the church and the community as well. Helps provide the needs of members who are sick, received bad news from their doctor or hospitalized. Reaches out to members who have lost family members. Prays with and for those who may be experiencing a crisis or struggling with finances, marriage, children, loss of job, etc. Visits and communicates with members who are home-bound or in nursing homes and unable attend church services.

If you have a need, see a need or just simply want to volunteer with this ministry, call the church office at 540-389-2129.
